Spinal health week is a health initiative of the Chiropractors Association of Australia. Each year for one week the CAA aims to create awareness about the health of our spine and its direct impact on the overall quality of our life. The World Health Organisation sums up health as, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Having your spine checked regularly by your Chiropractor can assist you in achieving optimal health.
Many people are under the impression they need a “pain” in their back or neck to see a Chiropractor but often waiting until a reasonable level of pain has manifested means the issue has gone on for too long. Waiting until pain arises only adds fuel to a situation that is already quite uncomfortable. You can avoid this frustrating and inconvenient situation and reduce the amount of time taken off work by having regular Chiropractic checkups.
You may think whats the point; I don’t have any pain now, but how many times do you hear someone say; “I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, I just got into the car the way I always do and then I felt this huge amount of pain.” I’m sure you can relate to the above statement. Most people who experience some form of back or neck pain weren’t doing anything strenuous or out of the ordinary and yet it resulted in a huge amount of discomfort and time off work. It is like the straw that broke the camels back. Excuse the pun.
This happens generally speaking because the person has had an underlying issue for some time, they could be predisposed to a condition or they have ignored all of the body’s signals alerting them that something is not quite right. Human nature shows us we keep going until we are forced to stop.
What if we took the initiative of having our spines checked regularly before pain was the result?
Just like we go to the Dentist for our check ups assuming that nothing is wrong we just need a good routine scale and clean and that is with our own regular cleaning. Why not approach your spine in the same way and have a routine chiropractic check up and learn how to “floss and clean” your spine on a daily basis. The age old saying “Prevention is better than cure” by Desiderius Arasmus stands true to this day.
If you are already in routine chiropractic care and know the benefits please spread the word and tell a friend. Spinal awareness week is from the 22nd -28th May 2017.
